Ghana Embassy Websites Hit by Technical Disruption, E-Visa System Remains Available

Several Ghanaian diplomatic missions abroad are experiencing website outages, leaving travellers and visa applicants unable to access the online platforms of some embassies and high commissions.

The disruption began on August 17, 2026, and has affected a number of Ghana’s diplomatic websites, including those serving Ghanaian missions in Paris, London, Washington, Brussels, Madrid, Ottawa and Tokyo. At least 13 missions are currently known to have been affected.

The issue has been described as technical. Ghana’s High Commission in London has officially confirmed that its website is experiencing a “temporary technical glitch” and said efforts are ongoing to restore the service.

Ghana’s E-Visa System Still Operating

Despite the disruption affecting individual diplomatic mission websites, Ghana’s national e-visa platform remains operational.

The outage concerns the websites of individual embassies and high commissions, which normally provide consular information and other services to visitors. The centralized system used to submit visa applications is separate from those websites and has not been affected by the reported technical problems.

This means travellers who need to apply for a Ghanaian visa can still use the national e-visa system.

Travellers Face Difficulty Accessing Information

The website outages have nevertheless created uncertainty for people preparing to travel to Ghana.

Those who normally visit embassy websites to check visa requirements, supporting documents or other consular information may currently be unable to access those resources. The disruption could be particularly inconvenient for travellers making plans at short notice.

According to the information provided, the reported technical problems have not changed the standard requirements for tourist and business visa applications.

Cause of Outage Still Unclear

The exact cause of the widespread website disruption has not yet been conclusively established.

There is currently no confirmed information indicating whether the affected websites are experiencing a single, centralized technical problem or separate outages at individual diplomatic missions.

What is known is that the affected missions are working to restore their websites, with the situation being regarded as temporary.

Visa Applications Continue

Travellers planning to visit Ghana should be aware that the embassy website outages do not mean that visa processing has stopped.

The national e-visa application system remains available, while pending and new visa applications are reported not to be affected by the technical problems involving the diplomatic websites.

For the latest information on visa costs, visa categories and application requirements, travellers should use the available official visa application channels rather than relying solely on embassy websites that are currently inaccessible.
