Dynamite Blast at Aboso Leaves Four Dead, Several Seriously Injured

Four people have died and several others suffered serious injuries after explosives detonated at Aboso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

The explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon during an attempt by residents and a security officer to kill a snake that had reportedly been frightening people in the community.

Assembly Member for the Akutuase Electoral Area, Emmanuel Eshun, told the media that the incident started after a resident saw the snake and informed the owner of a nearby shop.

According to Mr Eshun, the resident fired a warning shot in an attempt to drive the snake away. A security officer stationed at the shop later tried to shoot the reptile.

The Assembly Member said the bullet allegedly struck slabs of explosives being sold at a nearby shop, triggering a powerful blast.

Three people, including the shop owner, Kofi Fletcher, died at the scene, Mr Eshun said.

A fourth victim later died from injuries while being transported to a health facility, raising the confirmed death toll to four.

Several other people sustained serious injuries in the explosion.
