Gabonese President Nguema Arrives in Ghana for Bilateral Talks with Mahama

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has arrived in Accra for an official visit focused on expanding diplomatic relations, economic cooperation and regional collaboration between Ghana and Gabon.

President Nguema was welcomed at the Accra International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama, ministers of state, senior government officials and members of the Gabonese community living in Ghana.

As part of the official arrival ceremony, the visiting president inspected a guard of honour mounted by personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The two presidents later held brief preliminary discussions at the Jubilee Lounge before leaving the airport.

Following his arrival, President Nguema visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, where he laid a wreath in honour of Ghana’s founding leader.

The visit to the memorial was intended to recognise Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s contribution to African unity, independence and continental sovereignty.

President Nguema is expected to meet President Mahama at the Presidency later Tuesday afternoon for formal bilateral discussions.

The talks are expected to focus on increasing trade between Ghana and Gabon, strengthening economic cooperation, improving regional security and building closer relations between the two countries.

The meeting is also expected to provide an opportunity for the leaders to discuss broader efforts aimed at promoting unity and cooperation across the African continent.

President Nguema assumed leadership of Gabon during a transitional period that began in August 2023, when he became head of a military-led transitional government.

He was formally elected President in 2025. His administration has identified institutional reform, economic diversification and regional stability among its priorities.
