Okyeame Kwame Set for National Viral Hepatitis Ambassador Role in Ghana

Renowned Ghanaian musician and health advocate Kwame Nsiah Apau, popularly known as Okyeame Kwame, is set to take on an expanded advocacy role in Ghana’s campaign against viral hepatitis.

His proposed appointment as National Ambassador for Viral Hepatitis in Ghana was announced during a courtesy visit to the Service ahead of activities marking the 2026 World Hepatitis Day, which will be observed on 28 July.

The visit formally introduced Mr Nsiah Apau in his role as a Viral Hepatitis advocate and also created an opportunity for discussions on preparations for the upcoming World Hepatitis Day launch and other campaign activities.

Director-General Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, who welcomed the musician, commended him for his commitment to efforts aimed at tackling viral hepatitis.

Dr Akoriyea encouraged Okyeame Kwame to extend his advocacy support beyond the hepatitis programme to other major health initiatives, including the Government’s Free Primary Health Care Programme.

The Director-General also announced his intention to officially designate the musician as the National Ambassador for Viral Hepatitis in Ghana.

Under the proposed role, Mr Nsiah Apau would have the opportunity to participate in nationwide monitoring and advocacy activities focused on hepatitis prevention and control.

Responding to the proposal, Okyeame Kwame expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him and welcomed the opportunity to contribute further to the national campaign.

He reaffirmed his commitment to using his public platform and influence to support efforts aimed at eliminating viral hepatitis.

Mr Nsiah Apau also pledged to continue supporting the Service’s wider health promotion and public education programmes as part of efforts to improve public awareness on important health issues.
