President John Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the Achimota Forest Reserve from private development. Speaking at the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs on a Tuesday in July 2026, the President announced that Cabinet had approved the revocation of Executive Instrument 144, as amended.
According to President Mahama, the decision will restore the Achimota Forest Reserve to its original protected status. He said the government would continue consultations with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, the Lands Commission and other parties involved in the administration of the land.
The President stressed that land administration must serve the public interest while protecting the rights of traditional landowners and the interests of the state. The announcement reinforces the government’s position that the Achimota Forest Reserve should be preserved for the public and must not be sacrificed for private development.
