Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi insists there are no signs of nerves in the Black Stars camp ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the squad is motivated by strong team spirit and excitement.

Ghana begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.

Asked whether there was any nervousness within the squad, Ati-Zigi said the players are focused on embracing the occasion rather than fearing it.

“Nervous? I don’t think that’s the word because I feel there’s good team spirit. This shows that everyone is ready and everyone is looking forward to it,” he told GFA Media.

“Like I said, it’s a dream to be here, so everyone is ready to live it.”

The St. Gallen goalkeeper believes the positive atmosphere built during Ghana’s preparations has left the players confident ahead of the tournament.

Ati-Zigi is expected to challenge for the starting role after an impressive performance in Ghana’s pre-World Cup friendly against Wales. The 29-year-old featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is hoping to help the Black Stars make the knockout stage for the first time since their memorable run to the quarterfinals in 2010.

After facing Panama, Ghana will meet England on June 23 in Boston before concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
