Jordan Ayew says he is not weighed down by comparisons with his famous family, including his father Abedi Pele and brother Andre Ayew.
The Black Stars captain says he has always focused on carving out his own path rather than trying to live in anyone else’s shadow.
Ayew, who is preparing for a third World Cup appearance, said the pressure of carrying the Ayew name has followed him since childhood. He stressed that his ambition has always been to be the best version of himself and to make his family proud.
“I don’t compare myself to my dad. I have never said that I want to be like Andre or uncle Kwame,” he said. “I have always wanted to do my own life, my own career and try to be the best version of myself.”
The former Leicester City and Aston Villa forward played an important role in helping Ghana qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Black Stars will face Croatia, Panama and England in Group L at the tournament.
Ayew’s comments reflect a player who has embraced the weight of expectation without letting it define him. For him, the focus is not on matching family legends, but on building a career of his own.
