‘It was something I wasn’t expecting.’ – Kwadwo Asamoah on walking into a dressing room of idols – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Former Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah has opened up about the overwhelming feeling of joining a Black Stars squad filled with players he once only watched on television.

In an interview with 3Sports, the versatile midfielder recalled his early days in the national team, where he found himself alongside heroes of Ghana’s 2006 World Cup campaign.

“It was something that I wasn’t expecting. Players that you were watching on TV. The 2006 World Cup: we were still at Prampram when Sulley came to visit us after the World Cup.

“At Liberty Professionals, we had pictures and posters of Essien and most of the players. Seeing all these players and being with them at that time was like wow,” Asamoah said.

He was part of a golden generation that reached two Africa Cup of Nations finals and the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals. For a young player who grew up admiring those stars, stepping into the same dressing room was both humbling and inspiring.
