Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that the outstanding winning bonuses due to players, technical team members, and management officials for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification are yet to be paid.
Ahead of the resumption of the qualifiers in 2025, an agreement was reached between the playing body and the management committee to split the qualification bonuses, with 50 per cent to be paid upfront and the remaining half released upon securing qualification.
Ghana eventually sealed qualification, but the minister, speaking on Asempa FM, disclosed that the balance payment is still outstanding.
“The qualification bonus is yet to be paid to the players. We agreed that 50 per cent would be paid initially, and the remaining 50 per cent after qualification. As we speak, that additional 50 per cent is yet to be paid,” he said.
He added that former head coach Otto Addo, who led the team to qualification, is also still awaiting his full entitlement.
“Otto Addo qualified the team for the World Cup, and we are yet to pay him the additional 50 per cent of the qualification bonus,” he noted.
Kofi Adams further indicated that members of the management committee are also covered under the arrangement and will be paid following qualification.
“The management committee members have also not been paid. We agreed that they will be paid if qualification is secured, so since we have qualified, they will have to be paid as well,” he added.
Ghana topped their qualifying group with 25 points to book a place at the 2026 World Cup, where they will make their fifth appearance.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
