President John Dramani Mahama is facing mounting pressure to investigate the alleged employment of notorious landguards within national security institutions, particularly following violent incidents and reports of criminal elements infiltrating security agencies.
One such individual is Asafoatse Brother, also referred to as Asaa Brother or Animle Ayitey.
Reports indicate that Asaa Brother and his group have allegedly been accused of using the guise of working for National Security to intimidate and attack innocent people in the Ga State.
He has been implicated in violent chieftaincy and land disputes and bloody shooting-related cases in areas such as Omanjor, Ashalaja, and Ardeyman.
Residents allege that Asaa Brother, while operating as a National Security operative, carried out violent attacks on innocent people, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
Many have expressed concerns that if he were officially employed by National Security, he might exploit the position to commit further crimes.
Asafoatse Brother has been described as a notorious landguard operating in the Greater Accra Region, with past criminal records including allegations of murder.
His modus operandi reportedly involves issuing threats, launching surprise attacks—often referred to as “Rambo moves”—and causing harm or death to victims.
Public calls have intensified for a thorough investigation into his alleged and controversial involvement with the National Security apparatus.
Critics argue that individuals like Asaa Brother often use the guise of official work to continue landguard activities, undermining the reputation of legitimate security agencies.
Residents of Omanjor-Dwenewoho in the Ga North Municipality of the Ga State have called for the immediate arrest of Asafoatse Brother and his associates.
They specifically cited violent attacks during the Omanjor Homowo festival, which led to fatalities and injuries.
Residents also accused the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service of failing to take decisive action against Asaa Brother despite mounting evidence.
As of February 2026, reports continue to link him to violent landguard activities, describing him as a “key perpetrator” in the Greater Accra Region.
While he is sometimes employed for security assignments or used as an operative/informant, official statements from the National Security Ministry indicate he is not recognized as a formal staff member.
His signature style includes ambushing victims during festivals and other public events, issuing threats, and carrying out attacks. Many argue that allowing such individuals into national security roles poses a serious threat to public safety.
Calls for investigation stress that a thorough review would likely confirm that Asafoatse Brother is a criminal and unfit for any role within national security.
