GoldBod Joins National Sanitation Drive, Cleans Makola Environs

By Magdalene Andoh

Management and staff of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), led by Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., on Friday participated in the nationwide sanitation exercise launched by President John Dramani Mahama in the aftermath of the June 29 floods.

The exercise formed part of a coordinated national effort to improve environmental sanitation, reduce flood risks, and promote healthier communities following the devastating floods that affected several parts of the country.

The GoldBod team undertook a comprehensive clean-up of the Board’s headquarters and surrounding areas, extending their activities to the Ghana Library Authority, the SIC Mall, and sections of the Makola Market enclave. Staff cleared refuse, desilted drains, and removed debris to help restore cleanliness and improve sanitation within the central business district.

Speaking during the exercise, Deputy CEO Richard Nunekpeku reaffirmed GoldBod’s commitment to supporting national development initiatives beyond its core mandate. He noted that maintaining clean surroundings is a shared responsibility and encouraged businesses, institutions, and members of the public to embrace proper sanitation practices to safeguard public health and the environment.

The participation of GoldBod underscores the institution’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its commitment to contributing to national efforts aimed at creating cleaner, safer, and more resilient communities.

The nationwide sanitation exercise is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen environmental management and mitigate the impact of flooding through regular clean-up campaigns and increased public participation in sanitation initiatives.
