The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is set to recruit 300 Ghanaian teachers this year under a new education cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development after representing President John Dramani Mahama at the Bahamas’ 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.
According to Hon Ablakwa, the commitment was reached following bilateral talks during which he conveyed President Mahama’s appreciation to Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis for the invitation to the celebrations.
He said the recruitment of the 300 teachers marks the first phase of a broader education partnership and signals an expansion of labour mobility between Ghana and the Bahamas beyond the health sector.

Hon. Ablakwa noted that Bahamian authorities have been impressed with the performance and work ethic of Ghanaian nurses serving in the country under an existing agreement.
He also highlighted the longstanding historical ties between the two nations, stating that many Bahamians trace their ancestry and heritage to Ghana.
Hon Ablakwa congratulated the Bahamas on its 53rd Independence Anniversary and said Ghana looks forward to strengthening strategic partnerships that deliver direct benefits to the Ghanaian people.
