The Ghana Police Service in the Oti Region has uncovered a large consignment of suspected cannabis concealed in an impounded truck, with an estimated street value exceeding GHS 1.4 million.
According to a press release issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai on February 25, 2026, the suspected narcotics were retrieved from a Volvo truck with registration number GC 3522-09.
The vehicle was initially intercepted at the Bonakye checkpoint on December 29, 2025, while heading toward Kpassa, following intelligence that it was transporting illegal goods.
Police reported that the driver and another occupant fled the scene upon interception, abandoning the vehicle with the ignition key.

On February 24, 2026, the truck was opened at Nkwanta after a court order from the Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Y. Kerieba.
The exercise was conducted in the presence of representatives from the Police, Military, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Defence Intelligence, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media.
During the inspection, officers discovered 320 cartons of bottled mineral water concealing 91 bales of suspected cannabis. The bales contained a total of 7,173 slabs. The seized substances are estimated to have a street value of over GHS 1.4 million.
The exhibits have since been retained as investigations continue to identify and apprehend the suspects who fled.
The Police have reiterated their commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs and urged members of the public to provide credible information to assist in crime prevention and detection efforts across the region.
