Former Hearts of Oak star Salifu Ibrahim nears switch to represent Benin internationally


Former midfielder Salifu Ibrahim is close to completing an international switch to represent , following advanced discussions with the Benin Football Federation.

The creative playmaker, currently plying his trade with FC Drita in Kosovo, is eligible to feature for the Squirrels through his family roots in the nation. Reports indicate that the 24-year-old has agreed in principle to the nationality switch and could receive his first call-up soon.

Salifu rose to prominence during his time with Eleven Wonders before joining Hearts of Oak, where he played a pivotal role between 2021 and 2024. He helped the Phobians clinch the Premier League title and later contributed to FC Drita’s league triumph in Kosovo.

His impressive form has reportedly caught the attention of Benin head coach Gernot Rohr, who is eager to integrate him into the squad ahead of the next international window.
