Zebilla, Upper East Region – The government will allocate GH¢1 billion from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) next year to expand infrastructure in response to the double-track system, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, has announced.
Speaking during a working visit to Zebilla Senior High Technical School (ZSHTS) and other selected schools in the region, the Minister said the initiative forms part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda to improve quality education across the country. “The President has already instructed the Minister for Finance to incorporate this in his 2026 budget,” he added.
Mr Iddrisu inspected classrooms and other facilities, acknowledging the deteriorating infrastructure affecting learning, and assured students and management that the Home Economics block at ZSHTS would be commissioned in 2026.
Addressing the 506 WASSCE candidates at the school, he urged students to embrace honesty, discipline, and tolerance, emphasising that education is key to ending poverty and ignorance, particularly in Northern Ghana. “Who knows, the next President, MP, or Minister could come from among you,” he remarked.
The Minister’s visit included stops at Bolgatanga Technical Institute and Zamese Senior High Technical School, where he interacted with students sitting ongoing examinations and engaged with school authorities on infrastructure needs.
Mr Ebenezer Alumire Ndebila, MP for the Zebilla Constituency, used the occasion to appeal for the completion of an E-Block at Sapeliga, while Mr Iddrisu was accompanied by the Upper East Regional Minister, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and other officials.
