‘We must beg Kwesi Appiah to return’ – Rev. Osei Kofi urges GFA to reappoint former coach – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Rev. Osei Kofi has called on the Ghana Football Association to swallow its pride and reappoint Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars head coach, insisting that Ghana must “beg” him to return.

Speaking to Citi Sports on the sidelines of the Democracy Cup launch, the former Ghana international argued that Appiah remains the best candidate to lead the Black Stars into the 2026 World Cup following Otto Addo’s departure.

“If an appointment is to be made, it should be Kwesi Appiah because he understands our football culture. If we bring in a foreign coach, the person will first need time to adapt, but Kwesi Appiah already knows our style of play,” Osei Kofi said.

He emphasized that Appiah’s deep understanding of the local game makes him uniquely qualified for the role at this critical juncture.

“It would benefit Ghana if we beg him to return, especially considering how he was treated when he was dismissed. It would be right to ask him to come back. Sometimes, the way we handle issues in our football is not right.”

Appiah, who previously managed the Black Stars in two separate stints, led Ghana to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. His familiarity with the domestic football landscape, combined with his experience at the highest level, has made him a popular choice among those who believe local knowledge is essential for the national team.

With the 2026 World Cup just months away, the GFA is under pressure to name a successor to Otto Addo. For Osei Kofi, the answer is clear: bring back a coach who already knows the terrain.
