Police arrest 54 suspects in anti-drug operation across Ashanti Region


The Ghana Service has arrested 54 suspects during a series of intelligence-led anti-drug operations across the .

According to the Police, the operations were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police () Special Operations Team as part of efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and combat the illicit drug trade.

The raids targeted crime hotspots including Atwima-Koforidua, Abuakwa, Sofo Line Lorry Station, Ash Town, Ahwia, Bantama, Aputuogya, Krofrom, Pankrono, Tafo, Twumduase, Krofrom-Colombia and Alarba.

Police said those arrested include 49 men and five women. The male suspects comprise 38 Ghanaians and 11 Malian nationals.

During the operation, officers recovered large quantities of suspected narcotic substances, including Tramadol tablets of various strengths, suspected cannabis, narcotics processing materials, bottles of suspected narcotic-infused drinks, foreign cigarettes, 23 mobile phones, two casino jackpot machines and four unregistered motorcycles.

All 54 suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.

The said it will continue intelligence-led operations to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities and urged the public to support law enforcement by providing credible information.
