Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu mourns Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has described the death of Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II as a profound loss to Dagbon, paying tribute to the late monarch as a unifier whose leadership strengthened peace and reconciliation in the kingdom.

In a tribute, Mr Iddrisu said Dagbon had lost “more than a king” and hailed the Yaa Naa’s role in restoring unity and stability through inclusive leadership. He said the late monarch built on the legacy of his predecessors, including Naa Gbewaa and Naa Nyagsi, and worked to preserve the kingdom’s political and cultural traditions.

The Tamale South MP urged the people of Dagbon to honour the late King’s memory by upholding the kingdom’s rotational succession system, saying it had become an important pillar of peace and unity.

He expressed the hope that the tradition would continue to foster harmony between the Abudu and Andani royal gates and ensure lasting stability in Dagbon.

Mr Iddrisu concluded his tribute by praying for Almighty Allah to grant the late Yaa Naa Al-Jannah Firdaus and to continue to bless the Kingdom of Dagbon with peace.
