Police arrest suspected drug peddlers, seize large quantities of narcotics in Kumasi operations


The has arrested several suspected drug peddlers and recovered substantial quantities of suspected narcotic substances during a series of intelligence-led operations across the Metropolis.

The operations were carried out by the Inspector-General of () Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command and targeted locations identified as centres for the distribution and sale of illegal drugs.

According to a police statement issued on June 25, 2026, one of the major operations at Asawase led to the arrest of Kwame Afriyie, also known as “Con Papa” or “American Man,” aged 61. Police said a search conducted in his room and the provision shop uncovered a total of 81 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis.

In a separate operation at Asafo, officers arrested Kofi Acheampong, popularly known as “Mokobiley.

A search of his room reportedly led to the recovery of 311 transparent sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, 13 compressed parcels of similar substances, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, and quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.

Police also arrested Michael Owusu Agyeman, a 22-year-old National Service personnel, at Krofrom after he was allegedly found in possession of 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.

Further operations at Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom and Asafo BB resulted in the arrest of 10 additional suspects. They were identified as Adamu Ibrahim, Stanley Boahene, Favour Emmanuel, Abubakar Sadick, Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, Paul Quagraine, Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, Hamdiyah Ibrahim, Nicholas Adorku and Natson Yaaba.

The police said exhibits recovered during the operations included compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine and other controlled substances.

All seized items have been secured for forensic examination, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other persons believed to be connected to the illicit drug trade.

According to the statement, all the suspects have been arraigned before the court and remanded into police custody pending their next court appearances.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating the trafficking, peddling and abuse of narcotic drugs and called on the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information on drug-related activities.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command also commended members of the IGP Special Operations Team and officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and dedication in disrupting criminal networks operating within the region.
