Ghana FA in talks with Jamaica over possible pre-World Cup friendly – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has opened discussions with Jamaica over a potential international friendly as part of the Black Stars’ build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana are stepping up preparations for the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the technical team keen to fine-tune the squad before the global showpiece.

The Black Stars have already tested themselves against high-level opposition, including Austria and Germany under former head coach Otto Addo. However, following a run of back-to-back defeats, Addo was relieved of his duties.

Over the weekend, Ghana faced Mexico at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, suffering a 2–0 defeat in a match overseen by assistant coach Desmond Ofei.

The team had been scheduled to wrap up their pre-tournament friendlies against Wales on June 2 at the Cardiff City Stadium. But reports indicate newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz has requested an additional fixture to better assess his squad ahead of the World Cup.

That request has prompted renewed fixture planning, with discussions now at an advanced stage for a possible clash with Jamaica’s national team, the Reggae Boyz.

Ghana’s preparations come against the backdrop of recent tournament disappointments, having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022. The four-time African champions will be targeting a return to the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010.

At the 2026 World Cup, Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, before facing England at the Boston Stadium on June 23. Their final group match will be against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
