The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana, has cautioned the public against the use of falsified immigration stamps and fake travel endorsements in passports.
In a public announcement issued in Accra on 1 May 2026, the Ministry warned that some Ghanaian nationals abroad have recently been arrested after foreign authorities detected forged immigration stamps in their travel documents.
It stressed that falsifying immigration records is a serious criminal offence under Ghanaian law and the laws of many countries, with penalties including arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, heavy fines, deportation, and long-term travel bans.
The Ministry also cautioned against individuals posing as travel agents or intermediaries who facilitate such illegal practices, noting that both the service providers and passport holders are liable under the law.
Members of the public have been advised to process visas and travel documents only through officially recognised and accredited channels, and to verify the credentials of any travel consultant before engaging their services.
The Ministry further reminded Ghanaians abroad to comply strictly with immigration laws in their host countries and to seek assistance from Ghana’s diplomatic missions when necessary.
It upheld its commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens and working with diplomatic missions and international partners to address such cases.
