Ghana and Sierra Leone have signed seven agreements to strengthen bilateral relations at the inaugural Ministerial Session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) held in Accra on April 23, 2026.
The session, co-chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Francess Piagie Alghali, followed a Technical Session held from April 21 to 22.
Honourable Ablakwa said the PJCC provides a platform to translate longstanding relations into concrete partnerships that drive economic growth and improve livelihoods, stressing the need for effective implementation.
Honourable Alghali reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to deepening cooperation and building a mutually beneficial partnership.
The agreements signed are:
- Agreement on Defence/Military Cooperation
- Memorandum of Understanding on Electric Power Development and Management
- Memorandum of Understanding on Intelligence and Security Cooperation
- Memorandum of Understanding on Cocoa Sector Development Cooperation
- Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations
- Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts
- Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Health
Both countries pledged continued engagement and monitoring to ensure effective implementation of the agreements.
